NIGHTLIFE!!

Don't be deceived by the title, this post also includes daylife. Two of our friends from orientation came into town last weekend to hang and get away, you know all that jazz. Being a fake teacher where no one understands you can really take a toll. Its like how many different ways can one person explain 'Write down these questions.' Anyway so they came in town and we took them to the local eateries which was yum. We have this great food place right by our apartment. Needless to say they were impressed.

We then took a taxi to the BTS station (the sky train) and then took that to the high end mall. It was like literally stepping into America. To your right was Gucci, to your left was an Australian husband and wife, and in front of you was 15 person line for McDonalds. So in other words it was nice to be home for an afternoon. I bought some sandals from Forever 21.

After dinner and our nap on Saturday we get ready to go out. When contemplating what to wear the question to ask yourself was something along the lines of, "How can I remain cool enough so as not to sweat like I'm consistently in a sauna without people assuming I'm a prostitute?" So I wore pants and a tank top. The first stop was a saxophone bar which had live music, fancy drinks, wifi and foreigners everywhere. It was pretty dang fun. However, sometimes I forgot I was in Bangkok since there were a ton of white couples. The best part were the squat toilets.

We then left and went to the tourist street called Khao San Road. Its literally a road with a ton of clothing vendors where you can get pants for $3 and they'll rip the second you squat down. There are a couple food vendors and the food looks scary, but is usually yum. You will be asked several times to watch some pretty gross shows of the sexual and illegal variety. Watch your step because the 32 year old guy over there just threw up on the ground. The most common thing though are bars full of tourists spilling out onto the road. The music is super loud and the drinking is in abundance. It can be pretty fun if you're into dancing the night away and returning home at the wee hours of the morning with ringing ears and an empty wallet.
